Most of the information in this data base focuses on Latin America's history, politics, culture and its relationship with the United States. There are also items that deal with immigration and identity in the United States Southwest and Caribbean culture.

The information in this data base is presented in a form-based format, divided into 16 fields of information:

The field "type of information" indicates what sort of resource the item is, for example:

Be creative, as well as specific, in your keyword searches. By doing a keyword search, you can narrow the responses to fit your needs.

• For example, if you type "Guatemala" and "indigenous" the data base will bring up a list of items that contain information related to these two subjects, such as the teacher packet "Where is Guatemala and What is Quetzal?" and another teacher packet, as well as a curriculum unit, both called "Rigoberta Menchú, the Prize that Broke the Silence."
• If you type "Guatemala" and "Indian" those entries will not come up, but a video entitled "Hidden Scars" is listed.
• If you use the key words "Guatemala" and "native" only one item comes up, "Where is Guatemala and What is Quetzal?."
• Use the Grade field if you want to narrow your search for materials appropriate for a particular grade level, and Materials field to select a specific type of material (e.g. "slides" or "video" ). 
• There are nearly 300 items in this data base. You may need to do several separate searches to find all the items related to your topic.
